IGNITION INTERLOCK OPERATING PARAMETERS FOR ALABAMA

Required Operating Parameters for Ignition Interlock Devices

  • Anti-circumvention features must be enabled.
  • Initial Test Warning Level: BrAC ≥ 0.010 g/210L < 0.020 g/210L
  • Initial Test Fail Level: BrAC ≥ 0.020 g/210L
  • Initial Test Violation Level: BrAC ≥ 0.020 g/210L (takes 4 of these within the 30 day period to cause a violation)
  • Retest Warning Level: BrAC ≥ 0.010 g/210L < 0.020 g/210L
  • Retest Fail Level: BrAC ≥ 0.020 g/210L
  • Retest Violation Level: BrAC ≥ 0.020 g/210L (takes 4 of these within 30 day period to cause a violation)
  • Time to give retest: 5 minutes.
  • After a failed initial test or failed retest there should be a 15 minute lockout.
  • Retest time limit: There should be a retest required within 15 minutes of a passed initial test.
  • After the initial retest the following retest can occur anytime between 5 and 45 minutes, with 45 minutes being the maximum time between retest.
  • A retest should be required within 5 minutes after a warning.
  • Free restart time: 2 minutes
  • Grace period after a violation:5 days
  • Monitoring / service period: 25 days
  • Grace period for service: 5 days, this should be accompanied by a warning telling the participant that they have X number of days until lockout. This should count down.

Violations

  • 1. A BrAC of ≥ 0.020 g/210L four or more times within the 30 day monitoring period – 5 days to get to service center.
  • 2. Any tampering, circumvention, etc. 2 or more of these in a month. 5 days to get to service center - includes refusals, loss of power etc.
  • 3. Failure to comply with monitoring / service requirements - lockout after 30 days total. Can be reset with PIN, but no PIN reset after 65 days, participant must have vehicle towed.

Results should not be shown on the IID to the participant.

Calibration should be verified at 0.020 g/210L using dry gas every month. The results should be on the service / monitoring report given to the participant at the time of service. This can be automated or entered into the comment section.
